Back Pain
Back Pain affects over 60 million Americans every year. Back pain can range from a muscle aching and throbbing to a shooting burning, stabbing sensation that sometimes moves down the leg or across the back. Some feel it first thing in the morning and it takes awhile for it to start calm down only to come back the next morning, others might feel it after a short ride in the car, or a short walk. Maybe it’s once a month, maybe it’s a few times a week and for some its everyday. The fact of the matter is whether you’re experiencing back pain in the morning, afternoon, evening or night is that back pain makes each day tougher and stops us from doing the things we enjoy.
What Causes Back Pain?
Back pain can be caused by muscles or ligaments of the back being strained leading to painful muscle spasms, it can be caused by arthritis, the breakdown and regrowth of bone that can lead to pain, in rare cases it can be caused by different disease processes. Back pain can also be caused by abnormal alignment. 1, 2, 3
What Is Abnormal Alignment?
The body has normal ranges that it works to stay within in order to function normally. Whether its blood sugar levels, blood pressure, or temperature the body maintains these normal levels so it can function at it’s best.
The same is true for the alignment of the body. When the body is in normal alignment the muscles, ligaments and tendons are balanced and we are able to move without pain or discomfort. However, if the body is out of alignment it can cause painful abnormal strain on the ligaments, tendons, and muscles of the low back. This can lead to irritation and entrapment of nerves in the low back which is sometimes seen with pain that goes from the lower back down the leg. By utilizing a Data-Driven approach and measuring the alignment of the body we are able to tell where the breakdown has occurred and then work with the body to bring it back into normal alignment using the body’s own neurology and biomechanics.
