Can Chiropractic Help Your Brain?
Your brain’s health is primarily maintained by a fluid that surrounds it called Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), CSF surrounds the brain and spinal cord providing nutrition and clearing away waste that the brain produces. It does this while also providing neurotransmitters and other crucial transmitters.
When you move your body, more specifically your head, it helps to pump the CSF around the brain and the spinal cord. However, when there is trauma to the neck or head it can alter the alignment of the neck, blocking and interfering with the flow of the CSF and decreasing the motion of the neck. Much like a pipe getting clogged. This starts a cascade of negative effects because the brain needs more nutrients to heal and remove excess waste.
Due to the blockage caused by the structural misalignment from the trauma there is a buildup of waste surrounding the brain and a decrease in nutrients moving to the brain. This results in a decrease in the brain’s ability to heal.
That’s where Structural Chiropractic comes in. By restoring the alignment of the cervical spine, the motion of the neck starts to return and the blockage/interference of the CSF flow decreases. This allows proper flow of the CSF and a restoration of the “plumbing” system to allow the CSF to carry away waste as well as bring the proper nutritional components to the brain for it to heal.
If you’re interested in more ways to increase brain health, on September 19th from 6:15-7 pm I will be reviewing how to increase brain health. I will cover what foods you should be eating to enhance brain health, what activities you can be doing to prevent memory problems, and what supplements you can take to help reduce your risk of developing disease like Alzheimer’s and dementia.
It will be at the office at:
